JOB TITLERegistered Nurse

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:  Responsible for providing professional nursing care for clinic patients following established standards and practices.  Assists physicians and staff in coordinating patient care.  Functions as primary liaison between patients, staff and physicians. 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:  Reports to the Nurse Practitioner/Clinical Supervisor.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:  None.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1.       Provides general nursing care to patients.  Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.

2.       Maintains exam rooms for necessary supplies and materials. Ensures cleanliness.  Prepares equipment and aids physician during treatment, examination and testing of patients.

3.       Observes, records and reports patient's condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to physicians.  Dispenses medication as directed.  Educates patient/family about diagnostic procedures, medications, nutrition and maintenance of health and wellness.

4.       Ensures appointment and procedure process is completed appropriately.  Greets patients and prepares them for physician examination.  Screens patients for appropriation information.  Instructs patients in collection of samples and tests.

5.       Maintains/reviews patient records, charts and other pertinent information. Posts tests and examination results. Participates in authorization process and works with other members of practice (Billing) to provide cohesive environment. 

6.       Responds to/refers incoming patient treatment-related phone calls.  Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.

7.       Assists with formulation and completion of office policies and participates in compliance program.
 
8.       Acts as leader and role model for other clinical and clerical staff. Assists with problem solving and resolving operational issues.  Assists with training.

9.       Maintains patient confidentiality.

10.     Other duties as assigned.


EDUCATION: 
RN degree, BSN preferred.

EXPERIENCE: 
Minimum of one-year professional nursing experience, clinic experience preferred.

REQUIREMENTS: 
State Registered Nurse license. 

KNOWLEDGE:
1.       Knowledge of professional nursing theory, regulations and practices to give and evaluate patient care.
2.       Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish/maintain a safe work environment.

SKILLS:
1.       Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide ongoing patient care.
2.       Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions.
3.       Skill in preparing/maintaining records, writing reports and responding to correspondence.
4.       The registered nurse must demonstrate competencies applicable to the RN position. The registered nurse position is classified as nonexempt.

ABILITIES:
1.       Ability to maintain quality control standards.
2.       Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
3.       Ability to communicate clearly.

ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:
Combination of office and exam settings.  Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic
environment.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:
Varied activities including standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting.  Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand
coordination.  Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.  Must assist patients on and off scales, exam tables, treadmills and when necessary assist in lifting patients up to 100 lbs.  Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.
